FAQ: I have already created a class Team and Class Notebook using the old Microsoft Teams classes integration. What do I do?

If you have not yet added a class Team to your Fall 2025 course(s) using the old Microsoft Teams classes integration, you can ignore this page and move to the next step.

Some professors may have already used the Microsoft Teams classes integration to create and sync a Microsoft Class Team for a Fall 2025 course. In this situation, there are two options available:

Option 1: If you already created a Team and a Class Notebook using the old Microsoft Teams integration for Fall 2025, you may keep using them for the rest of the term. Do not delete your Team because your Class Notebook will also be deleted. In this scenario, do not create a new Team or new Class Notebook for that Fall 2025 course using the new Microsoft Education LTI. However, you may still use Teams Meetings in the new Microsoft Education LTI.
Option 2: (Recommended) Delete the Microsoft Team (class) you have already created and use the Microsoft Education integration to create a new Team for your class. This option is recommended if you do not have a Class Notebook or any other associated materials connected to the older Microsoft Team (class).

Option 1: Keep the Old Team and Class Notebook and Use Microsoft Education to Access it

If you decide to keep your old Team for Fall 2025, do not click "Add Microsoft Teams" in the Course settings of Microsoft Education as this will create a second Team for your course, unsynchronized from the first, and be confusing for students on which one to use.

Click on Microsoft Education [1], and then click on Continue setup [2]. If you prompted to Sign In, sign in with your GEM username and password.

Do not click on the slide button to Add Microsoft Teams.

On the Microsoft Education dashboard, click on the Teams button to access the old Team.

Option 2: Delete the Old Team and Create a New Team in the Microsoft Education LTI

Open the Microsoft Desktop App. Click on the Teams icon [1]. Under Classes [2], locate your old class Team. Scroll over the Team with your mouse and click on the three horizontal dots [3]. Select Delete team [4].

Go to Step 2: Signing into Microsoft Education and Setting Up Your Integration to add a new Microsoft Team to your course using the new Microsoft Education LTI.
