Communication Policy
Email is one of the official means of communication between a faculty member and a student at JSU. Email between the faculty member and the student must be confined to the JSU GEM email system to ensure the delivery of relevant information. Communication with the student will not occur outside of the JSU network system. All electronic communication between a faculty member and a student is subject to the University's procedure for archiving and retaining emails.
In this course, I utilize a student-centered approach to communication and email is the preferred method of communication. A student can typically expect an email response from me within a 24-hour time frame. My email address is (insert your email address here) Emails sent on Saturday, Sunday or official holidays may not be answered until the following business day or Monday of the following week. Please consider this is an online course, however, as a member of course faculty I am not online 24 hours a day; please take this into consideration when sending emails outside of normal business hours. (Insert your faculty practice days here with any exceptions to the 24 hour response time; if not delete this section) Also, I engage in faculty practice each Wednesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. During this time I will have limited availability to respond to email and this may delay my response time.
As a student enrolled in an online course, I have the same expectation in regards to your timely response to any communication that I may send you during the semester. I expect students to check their JSU email on a daily basis and to respond within a 24-hour time frame.
(Insert your virtual office hours if you offer this as an option, if not delete this section) As a remote faculty member, I also offer student virtual office hours using Skype for Business on (insert your days and times of availability here) Tuesday each week from 9:00 am -10:00 am.

You are responsible for your learning now (self-directed, independent learning) and will be expected to take an active role in your learning by applying the information that you learn to real-world situations. Assessment of your ability to apply the course information will be through various assignments in this course. You must check your email daily.
- When sending an email, please identify yourself! You must include your first and last name in every email you send, as well as the course ID (NU XXX). Also, always include a descriptive subject line, such as "Question about Module 1”.
- You will need to be familiar with this procedure for submitting assignments. Instructions are included in the appropriate assignment area within this course.
- All course assignments must be submitted through the Submit Assignment link. Do not send assignments to the faculty's email address.
- This course was designed to provide you with an excellent learning experience and allow flexibility to fit your schedule. All assignments have scheduled due dates as noted on the course calendar, however, assignments may be submitted early. Late assignments will not be accepted unless negotiated prior to the deadline for submission. You may log on to the course at any hour of the day that you choose. Use this to your advantage.
- This course is designed with modules that build upon each other. For this reason, faculty may choose to open each module may open separately several weeks prior to due dates for the module. Therefore, all modules may not be available at the beginning of the course but will open as scheduled throughout the semester.
- If you have questions about the content please contact your instructor.
- If you have technical problems you may contact Canvas (877) 404-2235 or click on the Help button in the menu to the left. Canvas Help is available 24/7 via text chat or phone.
- The Discussion Board provides an opportunity to communicate with students in the class, as well as the course faculty. I encourage you to actively engage in the discussion forum topics...it adds richness to the learning experience. Continual engagement will facilitate a community of learning and assist the student in understanding nursing research.
- How do I post a "new thread (message)" to the Discussion Board forum? When you enter the discussion board you will see the forums that are available. Click on the forum title that you wish to enter. This will take you to a new window. You will see instructions that state, "To start a discussion thread, use the Add New Thread button". Simply click on this box. This will open another window that provides space to type your message. When your message is complete, you must click on the "Submit" button located in the bottom right corner. As noted in the syllabus, participation in the Discussion Boards is a component of the evaluation for this course. Designated due dates for posting on each forum is reflected on the course calendar.
